Day 10: Quest
It’s a bit like Burp - but with a more general purpose. Can you find and photograph the missions’ objectives? Have fun!

cool idea. excellent. how often do the quests change hee

@Sean– You never fail to amaze… but even with these direction, it appears to be hard for people to stay on topic.
One thing you may consider for one of your future apps– something to allow viewers to rate the pictures that are posted, and then keep a gallery of highest ranked photos. Or maybe a place where people can comment on them– although that would probably make your results placed x-rated…
I will donate again a little further down the month!
Thanks for these apps!

you just broke my iphone, seriously i only get a black screen after installing your app.
November 10th, 2007 at 9:53 am
to ben: try to reboot your phone
November 10th, 2007 at 10:07 am
missions are overlapping. My mission was traffic but was posted under ’something strange’. My something strange is posted under ’something bright’
November 10th, 2007 at 10:10 am
@owen: the missions change based on the number of photos others have taken. so there’s always going to be some overlap at the mission boundaries. It sounds like you just got unlucky and hit the boundary twice in a row. To keep things simple, the submitted photo doesn’t carry with it the mission name - so the server-side doesn’t know if the photo is late in coming for a specific mission or not. It’s a weakness of the system as it is presently designed, unfortunately.
November 10th, 2007 at 10:11 am
@$hl3y: the missions change every 50 photos (as of right now). I’m playing with that number to try to find a balance, but it seems to be working out decently right now.
November 10th, 2007 at 10:11 am
@ben: I don’t know why that would happen… all I can suggest is what has already been suggested - restart your phone. :-/
November 10th, 2007 at 10:12 am
@Ramon: yeah, I think it’d just turn into a porn center… but in addition to that problem, I only have the one server… and it’s on the edge as it is. much more dynamic functionality would probably push it too far at this point.

@Sean:
Another loverly app my friend!! I really like the “missions” themes. Different spin on burp. Is there a way to have the pics auto update, like the burp tv page? I really like the consolidation of all the submissions. It’s fun to watch the interaction on my comp, rather than refreshing non stop on the iphone. Thanks again! I wish November wouldn’t end….rather I wish your app creation doesn’t stop… Cheers.

Sean,
Your dedication to your craft is refreshing as it is awe-inspiring. I am constantly amazed by your creativity. I also find myself dreading December 1. Gotta say Burp is my favorite app, with whisper a close second.
Don’t listen to the haters and the nay-sayers. You’re doing an amazing job. Keep up the great work.

…also. my preference only…but i wish you would switch the positioning of the Menu and Take Photo buttons….maybe its just me but having the take photo button way on the right ensures blury, crappy pics because my thumb is crunched up, trying to hit the button to take a pic and my hand shakes…..if it were where the menu button is, that would be schweeeeet, as its mad easy to get to (on the left hand side) rather than the right…. maybe my thumbs are too big… what do you think?
November 10th, 2007 at 11:11 am
@hanhookie:
i was thinking the same thing but i just assumed Sean is a Lefty and the button placement would make sense.
November 10th, 2007 at 11:25 am
Your apps are wonderfull, there more like games to mess around with, how bout making a really usefull app, im not saying urs not usefull, its just that, maybe mail, wheater, stocks, or myspace apps would be great, so i wish u can take this into consideration, all my firends use ur site, and they say its great,thank you for ur time.
November 10th, 2007 at 11:49 am
@HanHookie: I plan on working on a similar page later today.
November 10th, 2007 at 11:50 am
@Chilli23: Thanks
November 10th, 2007 at 11:50 am
Oh.. about the button placement.. I’m right handed, but I find I’m always using the iPhone with my left hand. So yeah, I never thought much about it.

November 10th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

wonderin if you could toss somethin off not in need of a camera or mic
November 10th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

This and whisper are my two fav apps !!
Thanks Sean!
November 11th, 2007 at 10:03 am
you know if you get adobe flash or shockwave it would be cooler,but yeah your apps are cool to.
November 12th, 2007 at 11:37 am
I think it’s the best app ou did. Please, make an update with a login, add a button “validate” to the picture an then, make a system to count how many quest each person valids, with a top 10 on your website or directly on the main menu, it would be so great !!! thank you so much
November 12th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Really fun little app that could be so much more. I am grateful for all the work your putting into these apps.(even the ones I installed and uninstalled in about 5 minutes or less!) I would donate but only if you promise to work on this app more later…. A voting system that keeps a tally of votes(up or down or something similar), an explanation of how voting keeps or dismisses a photo off of the “front page” and maybe even a comment system and a best of???
November 12th, 2007 at 11:51 pm
Sean, I love your apps! So far they have all been really great. I think it would be sweet if you added up & down arrows, kind of like reddit.com. That way, people could rank the pictures without compromising the app’s simplicity. It would also (hopefully) help you filter pics… Do you plan to update Quest at all?
November 13th, 2007 at 9:26 am
Can you please make an app that unlocks the bluetooth so you can send files to your friends?
November 13th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
will you be posting the source to this application? i would like to see how you interfaced with the camera.

November 14th, 2007 at 12:33 pm
Yeah, I’d be interested in the source code as well. I’ve actually got an idea to take this concept and expand on it in a big way
November 21st, 2007 at 8:17 am
I love this app! This should get some more work done on it and turned into a “killer” app! Great work!
December 9th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
