Day 17: Collage
This app is one of the bigger ones that I’ve done so far. It may not look complicated to the untrained eye, but there’s a lot going on here and it took awhile to put together. (One thing to remember is that any social app requires not only iPhone development, but also server-side development. In a way, the social apps aren’t just one program - they are often two or three.)
Collage lets you post either a picture or a note in a large scrollable space. Like Graffiti, your contributions are shared with everyone else running Collage and the whole space is sort of alive with change. Hope you like it.
Update: I made a web view of the collage. It’s kind of funky how it works - every now and then, Collage checks to see if a new snapshot is needed. If so, it takes one and uploads it. So the end result is that the web image of the entire collage is generated by random people running Collage. Distributed mobile computing! (sorta…)

app won’t install,” package download failed” error message keeps apperaing form Installer
November 17th, 2007 at 10:57 am
I download about 97% of the package in installer then it tells me package download error. So I can’t install todays app. Any clue why?
November 17th, 2007 at 11:27 am
@david : i think your firmware is 1.1.1- new apps are build for the Firmware 1.1.2 . I had the same problem. So you have to update your 1.1.1 iPhone/iPod touch to 1.1.2.
i´m a german nerd
! But first install OktoPrep from your installer.app, then update via iTunes to 1.1.2. After a new jailbreak your will find a ssh and the installer.app and your pod is prepared for next Firmwareupdates.
Sorry about my english
Greetings

@david: try again. I may have been in the middle of updating to a new version when you tried.
November 17th, 2007 at 11:38 am
@aw: it should be working.. try refreshing the installer sources, maybe, and then trying again?
November 17th, 2007 at 11:41 am

this app is outstanding!!! one of the most enjoyable so far, one request, can you make it work in widescreen mode as well in a future update?
November 17th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
santa claus said, “in the future will u try to make some applications that may have some use in our lives”.
Maybe Santa needs to download Pumped and Interval, two useful apps - Interval tells you to the second how much time has elapsed since a certain date or until a certain date - and Pumped helps you track mileage, fuel consumption and spending.
Or maybe Santa just needs to get his elves to program some apps for him.

Maybe later on this could be extended with “Private parties” where you enter a code to find it, like hidden IRC channels. So you can do one with just your buddies and others won’t be dropping their wieners into it.

November 18th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

November 18th, 2007 at 5:00 pm

November 18th, 2007 at 5:13 pm
what ever thats beside the fact
November 18th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
This just fully crashed on me when I was taking a picture. I would stare clear as my phone is not turning on now
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
This is a GREAT app if it weren’t for the porn kings. Why does it have to be ruined by the less intelligent every time. A few have to ruin it for the rest. It would be great if you could have a place to share photos and comments from all over the world but alas. The common denominator always seems to raise it’s ugly mug…
November 30th, 2007 at 11:41 pm
hey jin did you ever consider the battery might have died :p
December 20th, 2007 at 5:45 pm
