Crap.

Apple released new MacBook Pros today. *sigh* Now I want a new machine. Badly. Except I don’t have that kind of cash around. Grr.

Why don’t you sell iPhone software?

  2. Sean Says:

@Jemand: I’m currently working as an iPhone developer for an as-yet unnamed company. That’s not quite the same thing, of course…

Selling iPhone software right now is a bit tricky due to the lack of “official” distribution channel ala Apple. I know from iApp-a-Day that very *very* few people will donate - even when the button is right there every time they start the apps. (I’ve since removed the buttons from the apps that had them - it wasn’t worth it.) I therefore suspect that the kinds of people who tend to jailbreak their phones are not the kinds of people who want to pay for software. :-/ My apps have been downloaded millions of times and I made maybe $200 from donations in total. *shrug*

Eh. I could do without it. Even if I had the money, I wouldn’t have bought one. My four year old iBook seems to be working just fine. Also, why not put an SSD in it? Clearly it’s not a size issue as they were able to fit a 64 GB SSD in to a MacBook Air. They could probably put an even bigger SSD in to a MacBook or MacBook Pro. I think it’s best just to wait and see if something better comes out later…

@Jerry: I don’t really need one either, but I *want* one… Something better will always come out in the future. How long will you wait for it to show up? Always waiting for the next thing is the same as never getting it.

The lack of SSD option is strange. I suspect it is either due to cost or because they want to keep the Air “special” for awhile longer.

Sean- I would agree with your suspicions about Jailbreakers. We are probably some of the cheapest people around. I cannot remember the last time I paid for music (illegal downloading far cheaper) or programs (hacked versions abound). When I need a book, I’ll borrow it from the library or from family. And though I may not get food stamps, I rarely eat out; dollar-menu ho if I do. My kids get hand-me-downs and I have pretty much the same wardrobe as I did 7 or 8 years ago. I put cheap gas in my 11-year old gas-saver and have a house 2 rooms too small. I even save old receipts for fire kindling.
